serve & store

my love for different kind of ceramics is still very strong
last week when I received the latest issue of the ELLE decoration.nl
my attention was instantly drawn when I saw the inspiring portret of Dutch
philosopher, writer and designer Merel Kamp.

Merel was nominated for the Rijksstudio Award 2014, hosted by the Rijksmuseum
with the design of her Lamp Pouring Light (photo 3),  inspired by "het Melkmeisje",
the Milkmaids jug,  the famous painting of Dutch painter Vermeer

Beside the beautiful lamp I was also attracted
by her beautiful "Serve & Store" tableware collection
I really love the sober and matte design of this a great mix of
plates and bowles in different shapes and sizes.
The tableware collection is designed to reduce the use of
plastic film in the household,  each part of the set can be closed
with another part of the set so there will be no plastic waste.

see and read more about the work of Merel Kamp here or here

ps. unfortunately the tableware is not yet widely available. For a long time Merel has produced the collection
by herself but now she is looking for a producer. Ofcourse you can always send a mail to Merel
if you are interested in her work or if you would like to order something

photos by Merel Kamp with thanks!

location love - "lasloods"

photos elvs

after a fantastic and sunny
long weekend  at the dutch coast
it's great to start with this stunning workspace

I made these pictures this weekend
while visiting a temporary (13-14-20-21 june) exposition
in an old whellingfactory in my birth place Vlissingen.
I discoverd the expososition by coincidence
but I was attracted  immediately by the beautiful raw atmosphere

just loved the inspiring industrial elements
(as the concrete floors and walls, original details and vintage furniture
made of used materials) of this gorgeous location in combination with
the art works/photo exibibition,  mostly made of used materials
found in- and around this historic industrial building

the building will be open for public on the 20th  and 21th of June

the project: ' If paradise is half as nice #4 ' is the art project of Dutch and German artists in different configurations.
They claim empty expired factory complexes for a short period to work and exhibit. The artists are inspired by the building and the surrounding area and in this way they create large installations, sculptures, wall paintings (often) specifically designed only for the building. The artist have worked together 3 times before in Leipzig (Germany) and this spring, they  work in the yard at the invitation of Culture Lasloods in Vlissingen.
